OLD CHELTENHAM CEMETERY

The Old Cheltenham Cemetery was established as part of the original Government Reserve. Wandering through the cemetery today, you will find the graves of many of Cheltenham's most distinguished inhabitants. You will also find memorials to some of its youngest, such as the many unnamed babies from the nearby Children's Home (the site now occupied by Southland Shopping Centre) who died as a result of disease early in this century.

Most burials in recent times now take place in the new Cheltenham Cemetery, in nearby Reserve Road. The Cheltenham branch of the City of Kingston Library holds microfiche records of the cemetery's occupants, dating back to the start. The original headmaster and founder of the school, Frederick Meeres, is buried in the cemetery.
